Making a house cleaning checklist can take a lot of the worry and time consumption out of our household duties, and it is an excellent idea for maintaining some semblance of order. Those with children, especially the adorable little messy kind, may find it more difficult to plan for success, as dirt and chaos seem to pop up at the most inopportune times. First on the hose cleaning checklist for parents and pet owners should be a little shopping trip, as there are many things in this modern world which are absolute life saver during times of despair. Pick up a little handheld vacuum, which could cost between twenty and forty dollars depending on how fancy the unit is. You don’t need fancy, however, you just need suction and portability. Also, grab a carton of disinfectant wipes for both the kitchen and the back of the toilet.
Something that we all do is to be overly cautious about germs where our children are concerned. Studies have shown, however, that children who are kept in an overly sterile home are more susceptible to illness when introduced to school or daycare. Our bodies need a chance to build resistance to common germs and airborne viruses, as the immune system runs on memory. Finding the proper balance between sanitary and sterile is one of our most important tasks when making our house cleaning checklist. Standing urine and feces should be cleaned right away, of course, but the natural occurrence of germs mustn’t be fought against too adamantly. Using the disinfectant wipes on the toilet rim and seats and on the countertops at the end of each day will suffice for the proper balance.
Likewise, in the kitchen, any surfaces touched with raw meat or vegetables should be disinfected right away. The remainder of the surfaces should be wiped with water when needed, and disinfected with the wipes at the end of each day. Your floors are another issue on the house cleaning checklist, and these should be addressed in much the same way. Using your handy dandy new handheld vacuum, your bathroom and kitchen floors can be suctioned clean spot by spot, avoiding a large clean of an initially small mess.
Waste baskets should be added to your house cleaning checklist, as it is here where most odors and illnesses breed. Be sure that your liners are tightly stretched to the lid of your trash receptacles, as this will prevent food and dirt getting directly into the basket. Vinegar is a fine component when whisking the germs from your wastebaskets once per week. Do this in the bathtub during the winter months, or swish them outdoors with the garden hose during the warmer days.
